Multiple Sequences Alignment
Conserved sequences are defined as the identical sequences that appear within nucleic acid sequences which included RNA or DNA sequences and protein sequences across species. This sequences also indicate that a particular sequences that have been maintained by evolution despite speciation. Since sequence information is normally transmitted from parents to their offspring by genes, a conserved sequence implies that there is a conserved gene. Conserved domains are required for basic cellular function, stability or reproduction.
In part of the β-galactosidase family, the function of lactose phlorizin hydrolase is used to hydrolyse lactose into glucose and galactose. In our project, several conserved domains can be detected by using Clustalw sequence alignment programme. From the figures below, there are plenty of highly conserved sequences due to their species which all belong to mammalian species. Besides that, presence of identical amino acids and residues at analogous parts of protein are one of the reasons that creating the conserved domain among the different organisms. Structural and functional conservation are also indicated in conserved domain to show their active sites of enzyme and the binding sites of protein receptors.
